The Rhino Coast Guesthouse is an upmarket- luxury- Bed & Breakfast situated in the town of St. Lucia. It offers a tranquil escape for the discerning world traveler or business executive.

The house has an modern, open-plan design flowing into the outdoor entertainment Lapa where true South African breakfasts are served.
Dinners or traditional Braai’s (Barbeque’s) can be arranged on request, however, St. Lucia boasts with a variety of restaurants, all in walking distance of the guesthouse. The elegantly furnished en suite air-conditioned rooms are equipped with all the necessary amenities to ensure a luxury stay. The family rooms each sleep 4 people with full bathrooms, showers and corner baths. All of our non-smoking rooms open into the garden area which leads to a sparkling swimming pool; to refresh you after an enjoyable day exploring the African Bush.

The Rhino Coast Guesthouse is a stones throw away from the Saint Lucia Nature Reserve, which forms an integral part of South Africa’s first National World Heritage Site. The town is known as the Gateway to iSimangaliso, the Greater St. Lucia Wetlands Park which offers pristine beaches, whale watching, turtle tours, prolific bird life, snorkeling, game-viewing, fishing, walking trails, cycling, night safari, sunset safari, horse riding, Zulu cultural tours and boat cruises on the 85 km Estuarine lake, filled with an estimated 1300 hippo’s and several thousand crocodiles. St. Lucia is also in close proximity of the Hluhluwe – Umfolozi Game Reserve to view the Big 5.

The Rhino Coast Guesthouse also owns 4x4 Safari Vehicles – discounted rates on tours can be arrange, also packages rates is available on request. (Accommodation, game drive, boat cruise etc)

The Saint Lucia Wetlands guesthouse provides a perfect base from which to explore the beauty of the Wetlands Park and surroundings. Tours can be arranged and all bookings done through our office where we will advice you on what to do and where to go!!!

• Regulate our food shopping, buying from subsistence suppliers(local communities)   wherever possible
• Use shopping boxes which can be reused, instead of plastic bags
• Cook on gas and not charcoal or wood campfires, on all our game drives.
• Run energy saving lights through the whole lodge.
• Ensure we leave picnic sites clean and un-littered
• Always carry out non biodegradable waste, to be deposited responsibly where it can be collected
• Encourage passengers to buy drinks in returnable bottles
• Donate used vehicle parts and oil to recycling centers and local community chief for local use
• Run our routes as efficiently as possible to minimize unnecessary fuel.
• The tour guides gives regular talks and information regarding the significance of the culture, religion, health and concerned Bertus and myself, Juliet, began our first guesthouse in 2001. We joined the tourism industry, twelve (12)years ago and the last eight (8) of those have been running and maintaining guesthouses.  Our latest project is Rhino Coast Guesthouse which we opened in 2007.

 

St. Lucia was first known as "The River of the Sand of Gold", a name given to it by the early Portuguese explorers because of it's golden beaches, sun, and sea.  It is in these peaceful, yet magnificent surroundings that Rhino Coast Guest House is nestled.

Rhino Coast Guest House is only five (5) minutes walk from St. Lucia's main street where you will find the restaurants, shops and the lake.

Rhino Coast is only twenty (20) minutes walk from the beach.

Everything in and around St. Lucia is within a safe walking distance.  St. Lucia is a World Heritage SIte and boasts the highest coastal sand dune at Mapelane.

 This helps develop understanding and cultural exchange.
• We encourage cultural interaction with local people through conversation and encourage our tourist to visit local schools, houses and clinics.
• We explain the cultural sensitivity to all our tourist.
• We discourage giving money to beggars or children while on tour, It breeds a culture of begging.
• We ask permission before taking pictures of local people.
• We respect the wildlife we encounter. We aim to avoid antagonizing or distressing them, feeding them, or touching them.
• We carry flora and fauna reference books to promote interest and inform passengers of unidentified plants or animals.


SUPORT TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES.
1. Supporting Local Businesses

Rhino Coast aims to support the local economy by:
• Buying food from local markets wherever feasible.
• Giving employment priority to local African residents on all our vehicles as tour   guides, and in house staff.
• Working closely with small local African companies, on all our cultural tours to encourage local employment, development and investment.(FAFA TOURS, VEYANE TOURS, INKWEZI TOURS)

2. Supporting Local Community Projects
Cultural interaction can benefit both our passengers and the local communities we visit.

We are actively involved in the following community projects;

• Hula Village School.

We offer the opportunity to take walks with local guides to visit the local school,
We also offer bicycle tours to this school from St,Lucia.
We encourage donation on a strictly “no cash system”
We collect all donations and take responsibility for this to be handed out in co-operation with the community leader Mr. Phillip Khan.

• Khula Village Aids Orphanage.

Rhino Coast makes a generous donation towards the Aids Orphanage in Khula Village, annually.
• Ndumo Creche.

Shonalanga has been actively involved in the construction and after care of this crèche, this is a community project initiated by Abang Africa Tours.

• Kwazulu Natal Ezemvelo.

As owner of Rhino Coast, I, Bertus Britz is an honorary officer for KZN Wildlife.
We are responsible for all community projects from Richardsbay up to Kosi bay.
We are responsible for all community camps which we conduct annually with the following schools; Umfolozi High School(Ms. Mbatha, principal), Department of Environment Awareness in Empangeni.
Rhino Coast contribute financially to these projects.
